Black Lung Clinic
BHC is home to the only Black Lung Clinic in the state of Alabama. The Black Lung Clinic Program is designed to seek out active and retired miners and other individuals with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and other occupationally related lung diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. BHC also provides case management and referral services to agencies, such as the local offices of the U.S. Department of Labor, Division of Coal Mine Workers’ Compensation, to determine eligibility for other benefits. BHC not only offers services to the residents of Jefferson County but to the entire state of Alabama. Our outreach worker travels all over the state promoting the program and the benefits of the Black Lung Program at BHC.
